Blogging and Life with Kaylena Ranae
Hi! I am Kaylena, a twenty-something girl just trying to figure out life! I studied Psychology and Business at school. I’ve always been fascinated with how the two intertwine. The psyche of someone has so much impact on ours lives and I love diving into what makes us who we are. Personally, I have always loved music, fashion, make up and traveling.
I have been a professional nanny for years. I started babysitting when I was very young and eventually built a career out of it. I made the move to work in HR back in the spring to try something different. I felt like i had to try another field to know if I was truly on the right track for my life. I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. And I am now back to nannying and blogging!
I have always been someone who loves fashion, but also wears the same leggings a few days a week (oops!). When thinking about starting this blog I wanted it to be somewhere people could see cute, reasonable clothing and products I love. Along with sharing my life experiences to hopefully help someone else! I have lived quite an eventful life and if I could help just one person with my experiences and what I have learned then this will all be worth it. Whether it’s my anxiety, health, cute outfits, great books, workouts, amazing products etc. I want to be able to share it all!
Starting a new chapter is scary but freeing in so many ways. And I am choosing to embrace it to be able to create a life for myself that I love.
How did you get inspired to start doing what you do as an influencer in your industry?:
I wanted to be a positive force in a world where social media can be very dark at times.
I have been bullied on social media and have seen how mean it can be.
So I wanted to create a platform that beamed positivity and love for my followers while sharing aspect of my entire life from fashion to beauty to mental health.
We often have a book, podcast, video, or event that stands out to us and is instrumental in shifting our perspective in business. Do you have one that has been a significant impact for you moving forward? If so, can you share?
I love Rachel Hollis's books, Girl Wash Your Face and Girl Stop Apologizing.
Both showed me to be fearless and to believe in myself enough to take the plunge. I want to share that mindset with my followers. We are all so powerful and special in our own way and I want to give them the confidence to see that.
What are some of your biggest lessons learned over the years and what are you applying to your business today that is working for you?
I have learned people can be mean and judge heavily. It has shown me to be strong and have confidence in my brand and what I bring to the table. Everyone's brand is unique and if you believe in it enough and put in the effort you will succeed.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you worked to overcome it?
My biggest challenge was fear.
Fear of not being pretty enough, relatable, worth following.
I made a promise to myself that I would do something out of my comfort zone and really believe in my potential. It took a lot of talking/amping myself up. But I joined blogger group and started networking and it got easier! It was hard taking the plunge to believe in myself but I have gained such an incredible following I am so glad I did it.
What’s the best advice you ever received?
Don't seek others approval. Stay true to you and your brand and people will come.
What’s your best advice for handling criticism?
Kindness will always win. And if they’re too difficult there's a block option for a reason lol.
What do you believe your true purpose is? What value and impact do you hope serve and give to others?
I believe that I am here to share my story. I have a lot of fun things to share but I have also lived through a lot and I think its important to share the good and bad so people see they aren't alone. I want to help people move on from pain and believe in themselves.
How do you structure your days?
So M-Th I am a nanny and then I blog/ do direct sales during nap time and when I get home that night.
Fridays I run errands, catch up on emails, edit content and get any last minute details for content photoshoots on Saturday/Sunday.
I am on instagram everyday trying to build my following and engaging with followers.
How do you find time to follow your entrepreneurial journey while juggling other life responsibilities?
I have a planner and calendar app on my phone that I follow religiously.
On days I work I try to put in at least 2 hours and days I have off are dedicated to building my brand.
Family is important to me though so I make time for breaks and to spend time with those I love. And those closest to me actually help with my brand which makes it even more special.
What tools do you find indispensable in your day-to-day business?
Calendar apps, my iPhone camera, Instagram, Pinterest, Wordpress and Lightroom are my needs for this business.
My calendar keeps me organized and my phone takes all my pics. I funnel a lot of my traffic through Pinterest and Instagram to my Blog.
Lightroom helps add my presets to pictures to help my feed be more aesthetically pleasing.
Social Media is such a gateway for influencer’s today. What platforms work best for you and why do you choose to use them the most?
I love Instagram and Pinterest they have been what work best for me and my following is growing at a great pace!
I like the simplicity of liking and commenting on both apps. They're pretty user friendly and I am creating a great community through them!
What are you tips for maintaining a present influence on these platforms and how do you encouraging continued engagement with your following?
I show up everyday on social media and block out time to message new followers and like their posts here and there. I have found being on stories also helps them relate to me better! Everything I do is to make my followers see I care!
What can people expect to see when following you?
I post pictures I am proud of and try to showcase my personality and blog content. You will see fashion, beauty, lifestyle, mental health and career based content. My page is basically my life in technology form and I am proud of it!
What do you believe set's you apart from others in your same industry?
My main focus is building other up and making women see anything they dream of can happen with the right attitude and work ethic! I have a story a lot fo people can relate to and I am open to share anything people want to know. Transparency is key and I don't think everyone acts that way with social media.
What’s next for you?
I hope to continue to build my community and have the ability to influence full time to help mentor other women!
Are you involved with any organizations, foundations, or clubs? If yes, please describe and let us know how we can help support.
I am working to help support more human trafficking organizations. I am very passionate about the issue and hope to start focusing on it on my blog/insta too.
Lastly, what legacy do you hope to leave behind and imprint do you hope to make on others?
I want to help others and make them aware of the world around us. Information is our best tool and using it to our advantage is key! I want people to see I care and believe in the community I have created and that I have helped them in some way.
Where can people find you?
