Conquer The Secrets You Need To Start Your Business
I’m so excited to be sharing with you today; my five secrets to conquer when starting a business. It is not easy to start a business and get it off the ground. Take it from me. I started my photography business while maintaining my 9-5 that I absolutely dreaded to go to, every day. I was stuck and photography was really a passion I had to pursue, so I went for it. It can be really difficult and often frustrating when you have responsibilities and needs from your day job as well as your side hustle. However, once you having some key secrets to follow, it will for sure help you get the ball rolling.
Keep reading to see my list of five secrets to conquer!
1. Have a clear vision of business and your mission.
So you have this idea of starting a business? What are you going to do? What problems do you intend to address and what solutions to those problems are you looking to sell? These are all key questions to ask yourself and get hashed out before you put the pedal to the metal on your business.
Having a clear vision of what you are going to do or sell is SUPER helpful when starting a business. It is better to figure all of these things out first, before you are knee deep in operating your business. Create a list of things you want to accomplish in your business. Who are you going to serve? What problem is it going to solve? Are you going to offer a service? What is it and what makes you different? Whether you do this on your lunch break or after your kids went to bed, do it. Then you will be able to have a clear focus on where you want to go.
Once you have that ironed out you can figure out what your mission is. It really goes hand-in-hand with having a clear vision for your business but it is super important to conquer. Having a mission statement for your business is the core, just like a thesis to your papers in school. This is something you can always circle back to when you are stuck and don’t know where to go. Your business stems off of it. Once you have your vision and your mission you are ready to move onto the next step.
2. Research your competition.
This is possibly more important than figuring out your vision and mission. Researching competition can be tough and may get you down on why you should be starting a business in the first place. But, you have to be firm on your decision moving forward. Seeing people out there that are doing the same thing you want to do is a good way to learn how YOU can be better.
For example, if you want to be a DIY YouTuber you should be searching popular related videos and what content your competitors are feeding their subscribers. This will give you a clear vision and direction moving forward. You should then read the comments and find questions that the creators are not answering and ANSWER THEM IN YOUR VIDEOS. Kinda self-explanatory but it’s often a secret in the business world. This can be applied to any business. Do your research, find out what works and what doesn’t and improve on what is already out there.
3. Invest the time for education
Since you are just starting a business you probably still figuring out everything that goes into actually running it. You are not going to know everything right off the bat and that’s OKAY! I recommend putting in dedicated time to learn all the fundamentals of running your business, because, if you don’t, it’s no secret that you won’t be as successful.
I have invested in so many courses, watched countless YouTube videos, as well as listened to endless podcasts. Find information out there that works best for you and what you connect with. Four types of education that I have personally invested time and money in are; workshops, conferences, retreats, and masterminds. They are all spaces where you can connect with like-minded individuals, learn something new, and make valuable connections within the industry that will help you in the long run! A great FREE way to be a part of these communities is to start with Facebook groups. They can be SUPER helpful and great to bounce ideas off each other and help each other with the struggles they have.
Once you tell yourself that it is OK to not know everything and to be OK with investing in education, you will never turn back. This is one secret that took me a couple of years to conquer but once I overcame my pride, a whole new world of opportunities opened up for me.
4. Find your perfect branding
So this can be a bit tricky and a lot of small businesses fail at this, and that is branding. This isn’t just a logo and a cute name for your business, it’s a full way on how your business is presented into the world. I have a full video walking you through how to find that perfect branding here:
Your branding is how you showcase your business, tell your story and attract an audience in to invest in you. Your branding needs to be something that is going to attract your ideal audience which in turn converts to sales.
For example, if you are selling homemade clay bowls you may want a branding that showcasing the design of your bowls and tells the story of why you started. Think of who would want to buy those bowls and think of the colors and visual things that they would like. That is where you find your perfect branding.
5. Promote your business and set a launch date
The last secret is one that most businesses to forget about; promotion. When you start a new business you can now create a website and launch it all in the same day but who would know that it is out there? Your website is just one of may in the internet world and trying to get people to find you can be a challenge. How do you get people there? Putting a promotional and marketing plan in place, as well as a launch date is key. It gets your audience excited for the anticipation of your opening date!
I would highly suggest that before you launch your business, start posting across a variety of social platforms.. Share your story and get people excited to see what is about to unfold. Build an email list and send off VIP exclusive, “first to know” updates. At the end of the day above all else, an email list is something you OWN.
I really hope these secrets help you conquer your dreams of starting your own business. I know it can all be hard but having these few steps will put you in the right direction of success! Good luck! I am on the sidelines cheering for you!
