How To Make A Calendar for FREE Using Canva
Sometimes, I like to think of my schedule flowing seamlessly like synchronized swimmers; wishful thinking, yes, but highly unlikely, until now. Which is why I still wonder why more and more people do not search the internet for more amazing tools such as Canva.
Dammit, ladies! We have to get it together. One of the most important factors in our success is organization and planning. We need to stop letting time escape us and start maximizing it to our benefit. One of the ways you can do this is by creating a daily, weekly, or monthly planner to keep you centered, focused, and organized.
I use Canva, a free easy to use graphic design web tool to create simple and quick graphics for not only my social feed but my home office as well. I share with you my steps to create a beautiful daily, weekly, or monthly calendar, your choice, obviously. I even added some free calendar templates to make it easier!
STEP 1 - CHOOSE YOUR DOCUMENT SIZE
Once you’ve signed in to your Canva account, you will automatically land on your HOME DASHBOARD. From there you will see preset template sizes where you can then select “Browse All” to view all options. You will want to search for the US Letter or A4 template. If you want to design an A5 planner, use the A4 document size since an A5 is half of an A4 but with the same proportion.
Another option is to create a custom size document using your own custom dimensions. This is where you will select your custom width x height in pixels. I use 2550 x 3300 for US Letter vertical calendar, 3300 x 2550 for US Letter horizontal calendar, and 2480 x 3508 for A4 pages.
STEP 2 - CREATE A CALENDAR/ UPLOAD A TEMPLATE
If you have a design thumb, go ahead and create your own custom design. If not, like most people, head on over to the left panel and select “Elements” then click “Shapes” and choose the rectangle tool. Use this to create squares for your calendar or make a grid.
Even better, you can upload pre-designed calendar templates found here. Select a template of your liking and then “Use this template”. Once your template loads you only need to make minor adjustments and BOOM, you’re done!
STEP 3 - RESIZE + ALIGN YOUR CALENDAR
Making sure your calendar is centered and aligned perfectly to your grid is very simple and something I highly recommend. No one want’s a off-center design. We want pretty and perfect, right? Click on the photo of the calendar grid and pull at the corners to adjust the size. You can also drag the calendar to one side to create space for your notes. Canva also shows grid lines to let you know that the image is at the center of the document.
STEP 4 - MAKE IT YOUR OWN! ADD SOME DESIGNS
Upload another photo or choose from Canva’s image library! You can also upload and use images you find and like from searching Google.
From the left panel, click Search and type the image you like. I usually type in flowers and choose any of their free images.
You can even change the colors on some images. Click the image and then check the toolbar at the top left. Choose a color and change it according to your favorite color theme.
At the top right toolbar, you will also find options to make the image more transparent or put one image below another. Get creative!
5. FINISH IT UP WITH SOME TEXT
To make a calendar, you must add the days and the dates, and the month of the year. From the left panel, click Text and choose and basic add text option.
Click on the text box twice to see the edit text panel. From there, you can write the text, change the alignment, font, and size of your text, and change the text color!
Exit and click the text box again. Adjust the size and position of your text box.
You can also use this tool to add the events on your planner, and even your goals and some notes for the month.
6. FINALIZE + SAVE
Click the Download button on top and save as PDF. Then, you can open this file from your documents folder and print as usual.
Because we used a big pixel size, make sure to choose FIT TO PAGE on your printer settings!
You can also save your file as an image and use it later for other calendars and planners.
